Visiting the mother ship

This past Sunday, we decided to visit the Cal campus. Mainly because Jay wanted to buy a Cal lanyard so he could wear it at his Stanford PT job. Heehee! So subversive. He also wants to plaster Cal posters all over his office, but that's a work in progress.

Anyways, Justin quite enjoyed seeing the dinosaur bones at the VSLB. I didn't think he would understand that the bones were dinosaurs like he sees on TV, but he was so excited! He also got into the Cal spirit at the Bancroft Clothing Store. Mainly because he saw some other little girls waving the pom poms too...maybe he was trying to chat up the cheerleaders? Oh boy.

Go Bears!

Bay Area Discovery Museum

This past Sunday, we decided to make the trek to Sausalito to visit the Bay Area Discovery Museum. I had a Groupon for discounted tickets so we made a day trip out of it. The museum is located at Fort Baker, which is right at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. I always forget how pretty it is, even on a drizzly day.

Justin had a great time exploring the place and settled in with the shovels and dump trucks. He also discovered a tree that needed climbing. What a boy!

Big Boy

Just another weekend breakfast at the Wong household. Seeing Justin like this somehow just underscored what a big boy he's becoming...He'll even say "Cheese" for the camera now! What a ham.

Justin has graduated from still life sippy cups to live subjects (Does Tickle Me Cookie Monster count as a live subject?)

Happy March!

Oops! Has it been a whole month since I last blogged? It's been a pretty mellow month and I haven't taken many pictures since we don't have a camera with a fast enough shutter speed to capture our moving target of a toddler!

Justin has been at preschool for a whole month now and as far as I can tell has adjusted just fine. He asks for the teachers when he's at home and I get a big cheery "Goodbye!" when I drop him off in the mornings. From what the teachers tell me, he's doing better at waiting in line and just needs to work on sitting still (but what 2-year-old boy and most boys for that matter don't still need to work on that?).

Aside from a head bump during recess (and ensuing phone call and incident report) a couple of weeks ago, Justin is doing just fine. He gets to do art everyday which he loves (especially since Mommy won't let him paint at home!) Here is the first piece of artwork I got to take home for him. Fellow parents tell me that the avalanche is just beginning...

We're pretty sure it's a moon, but we've had votes of quesedilla and empananda as well.

I guess the only challenge with preschool is that Justin is starting to drop his afternoon nap. We're not sure if it's because he's just too wound up on preschool days or if it's just a coincidence, but at any rate, no afternoon nap means it has to be made up somewhere...

At least this time he finished chewing his food before nodding off.

I just re-registered him for the fall. Even though he'll be 3 in October, he'll be placed in the older 2's class. With California moving the kindergarten enrollment dates up, the preschool is moving their birthday cutoffs too (October 1 for his class). Oh well. I guess Justin is destined to be the oldest kid in his classes from now on. Coupled with the fact that he seems to be big for his age, maybe he has a chance of making the basketball team one day ;)

Justin's First Day of Preschool

Today was Justin's first official day of preschool...well, it's really considered the "Toddler Option" of the real preschool, but I consider it to be school nonetheless. I finally made the plunge this past month and decided to send the little rugrat to school. Ever since Justin turned two and finally started talking, he's been really picking up letters and numbers. I reluctantly figured it was high time to send the kid to school so he could learn how to listen to a teacher and follow directions, etc.

So I choose a school that's really close to my work. It's play-based and takes kids who aren't potty-trained. Plus it's a brand new facility, so those were all big pluses in my book. Justin will be going three half days a week. We went for a trial run last week where I got to stay with him for the morning so it wouldn't be so foreign to him when he started for real. I will totally admit that I was nervous and scared after our trial run, seeing how well the other kids were able to wait their turn and follow directions from the teacher.

But Jay assured me Justin would be fine and probably do pretty well once I wasn't there to hover over him. True to form, Justin did pretty well today. He didn't cry when I left and apparently only cried once during the morning when he didn't want to wait his turn. When I went to get him, he was sitting quietly with the other kids listening to a story. But as soon as he saw me, he started bawling! Oops. I think he was just hungry and maybe relieved to see familiar faces. He was fine after we gave him some milk and snacks.

::Sigh:: Another milestone in the little rugrat's life. It's sad to think of him being old enough to go to any kind of school. But I know this will be good for the both of us :)
