We left Friday night just before Justin's bedtime, hoping that he would just sleep in the car the whole ride up. Luckily he did, but I'm not sure how well he actually slept since every so often he would fuss like he was trying to change position. Anyways, even though there was an accident in Davis, we made it up to the cabin in four hours - not too shabby. We thought we'd be able to just move Justin from the car up into his Pack n Play without him waking up, but as soon as we stopped the car, his eyes popped open (yikes!) I think he was only half asleep because he didn't want me to put him down or anything. So I just carried him while we got the cabin set up, gave him a little milk, and put him back down to sleep without a peep.
(Side note: I never thought I'd be this obsessed with sleeping patterns as a parent!! Sheesh.)
Justin slept well the rest of the night. The weather was beautiful the next morning! We had breakfast at the Red Hut Waffle Cafe in South Lake Tahoe. Yum yum! It's a small little place, but we only had to wait a few minutes outside. It had gotten good yelp! reviews and yelp didn't let us down. True to its name, the waffles were YUMMY - plus they had fresh strawberries, so that was a plus.
After breakfast we went to go look for some snow to play in for Justin's first experience. We found a little lot and got Justin all suited up in his snow suit and boots. Well, the boots were a little big, so when Jay put Justin down in the parking lot and turned to close the car door, Justin tried to walk away and took a header right in the parking lot! Yikes! Luckily he was okay - he scraped his nose pretty good and got a good bump on his forehead. After we cleaned him up and let him cuddle with Mommy for a few minutes, he was okay. Of course, he wasn't really in the mood for playing in the snow for the first time after all that. He didn't like walking in the snow - I think because he doesn't like being unsteady on his feet. He tolerated sitting in the sled and going down the little hill (We thought he might enjoy that more since he likes slides so much). He was pretty curious about touching the snow and seemed to like playing with that a bit.
So after that, we headed back to the cabin. Jay headed off to do a half day of snowboarding at Sierra. I fed lunch to Justin...after all that trauma from the morning, he ate SO much. He kept finishing everything I gave him and I had to keep looking around for more food to give him. Luckily Terry, Sharon and crew arrived and were nice enough to share their groceries with the little garbage disposal. Justin played for a little while with his little friends Caitlyn and Lexi and then went down for a two-hour nap (yay!)
We took Justin out for some more snow time after he woke up and Jay came back from the slopes. He seemed to enjoy it a little more this time. Dinner was at the Wolfgang Puck Express at Heavenly Village. Nothing to write home about, but a good place to have pizza with six adults and three toddlers. Justin enjoyed the pizza that Mommy now lets him have!

The next morning we all went to brunch at the Forest Buffet at Harrah's. Of course, I beelined for the dessert trays, but tried to make myself at least eat some scrambled eggs first. Justin was in food heaven because there was so much variety of food and because Mommy let him make a mess while feeding himself. He ate scrambled eggs, ham, yogurt, chow fun, fried rice, canteloupe and honeydew. Buffets are great!
We headed back to the cabin to pack up. Jay took Justin in the snow outside one last time while I cleaned up our rooms. He enjoyed trying to put Daddy's gloves on as well as throwing snow against the sled. After that, it was time to head home...
We were hoping that Justin would take a long nap in the car, but he ended up only napping for 50 minutes (yikes!) That happened to be right about when we were hitting traffic in the Sacramento area. Great. Well, true to form, Justin was actually okay sitting in his car seat as long as Mommy kept giving him milk and snacks and toys from the front seat. He made it to Vacaville where we stopped for some shopping and to let Justin burn some energy running around. Bought some stuff at BR and Gap outlet (thank goodness for the Friends and Family coupon I left in my purse!) and headed off again. More snacks and toys in the car for Justin.
We stopped in Berkeley for dinner at Viks Chaat Corner. It's essentially a fast food Indian restaurant. Hard to describe, but I definitely recommend trying it. It was actually just written up in the Chron on Sunday. Yum yum. But SPICY! Okay, well spicy to my non-palate. Probably just plain tasty to our friend Esther, the fire-eater. A mango lassi drink on the side is a must.
We made it home by 8:45 PM on Sunday...Justin had fallen asleep on the way back from Berkeley so we had to wake him up, dunk him in the bathtub, and then put his PJs on and into his crib. Jay was nice enough to deal with the aftermath that was my car (imagine toys, food, and crumbs everywhere).
*Whew* So that was our trip to Tahoe this weekend. It was a lot of fun, but left me wishing that I had one more weekend day to recuperate, especially since I seem to have caught Justin's cold from last week - fun.
Justin's nose is healing okay...he does look like he's been in a fight though. Jay says he was in a fight with gravity...and lost!
